The MEAN Stack Developer Newsletter Issue 4 - Mastodon, Deno + Slack, and Socks on Saleor
I don't even know where to start - there was so much cool stuff this week, I don't even know where to begin... How about with some MEAN Stack eh?
I Can Code One ‘Mean’, MEAN Stack
As much as I love the MEAN and MERN stacks, I just can’t limit myself to only writing about things related to this tech stack. Yes, there is a lot to find out when you start heading down that rabbit hole. But I need to keep things fresh and new for them to remain enjoyable to me. I want people to enjoy reading this newsletter - if I only wrote about the MEAN stack and said “READ IT!”, you’re probably not gonna have a good time.
I’ve included four little MEAN stack related article below. I hope these are helpful to y’all in some way or another:
M - MongoDB: What are the Key Features of MongoDB? by Mohit Arora
E - ExpressJS: ExpressJS Tutorial by Zetcode
A - Angular: Getting Started with Angular Material by Melissa Houghton
N - NodeJS: Intro to NodeJS - 15 Part Series by Miku86
And once you pop, the fun just don’t stop!
Mastodon - A federated/decentralized microblogging and social networking platform.
Are you tired of just anyone being able to get online and find out who all of your friends are, but still desire the human connection aspect that Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter provide? Well come join me on the Fediverse, where everything is decentralized and the best part - you own your own piece of the internet and your own social media microblog!
This is honestly exactly what my dream social network site looks like! Seriously - especially because you toot rather than Tweet. You’ll meet a lot of tech nerds like me and then a bunch of people who are big advocates for democracy. I’m going to create my own server and social network here in the near future to share with y’all.
Media Jams - Learn how to master media, created by Cloudinary
This has been around for a minute, but I just found out about it which makes me want to scream at the top of my lungs. Any how, this is a great resource if you are not experienced in editing pictures, making videos, etc. I found my new resume generator project on there that I’ve been itching to make.
Traefik Labs - Cloud native networking platform
Traefik Proxy is a tool that I feel like I had been searching for forever, but didn’t know I needed. It is a modern reverse proxy and load balancer that makes deploying microservices easy. For those of you who might not know what that means, it basically is an edge router that makes it easy to publish APIs.
There is also Traefik Mesh, Enterprise, and Pilot; Mesh routes trough proxy endpoints to your Kubernetes nodes, Enterprise is like the whole management system, and Pilot is like the whole dashboard for visualization. Traefik is great for getting data out of DB no-code tools like Baserow and Airtable.
Saleor - GraphQL eCommerce Tool that allows you to personalize the whole experience.
I first found Saleor while looking at templates and they had one of the coolest store layouts I had seen. So I went to check it out, thinking it was just like Shopify - nope! Saleor is highly customizable as it allows you to use a GraphQL layer to create your store and show off your products. You’ll love the flexibility the front end provides and all the awesome Jamstack tools that you can use to optimize your experience!
Boot.dev - Learn backend development
Boot dot dev is something I found about a month ago when the owner reached out to me and asked what I thought of his new application. I played around a little bit but didn’t really try it out a whole lot until this week - it is amazing!
One of the trends that I think we’ll continue to see is this gamification of learning - that’s exactly what Boot.dev is. They have leaderboards for for all the users and you get rewarded with experience points. Check it out!
More to come soon
I know this newsletter comes a little late this time around, but I will be on track this week. I had a hectic week - plus I have a few more things I can’t wait to tell y’all about. If you like the article please subscribe and share with some friends who you think might like it/benefit from it.
I’ve got to GEAUX for now, but you can check out my other blogs at Dev.to and Medium. Until next time!
